Just pathetic

Greg Combet recently announced some further details on the compensation component of the carbon tax and the Australian media once again covered themselves in glory.
I know that stepping outside of their usual role of press release re-typing is a bit of a stretch for them but you would think they would at least have some of the basic skills of their profession. Combet was repeatedly questioned about details that he had already explained and was at pains to point out to the oxygen-thriving stenographers that he had previously answered them…not that it stopped them.

Then, of course they needed to fill their daily oppositional journalism (ie the Opposition says…) quota so they interviewed that paragon of clear thinking Tony Abbott. His response to the Government’s compensation package? “You just can’t trust Labor”…that’s it. And he wants us to accept him as the alternative Prime Minister.

Just pathetic.

That press interview of Mr. Abbott and Mr. Hunt was pathetic. They kept the press waiting for about ten minutes or more.

Both come in with a bored look on their faces. They both gave about a sixty second speech that did not address Mr. Comet’s announcements and repeated false allegations numerous lies they have been promoting, such as a leak paper which happened to be obtained under FOI and related to Mr. Rudd’s proposition.

Mr. Hunt made an outrageous claim that he must have known to be incorrect. There were a couple of questions asked, which I could not hear.

Mr. Abbott asked if that was enough and both left. There were no shots of the press present. No questioning of what had been announced and no questioning of where Mr. Abbott stood on the matter.

It was a poor presentation and a complete waste of my time waiting to see what he had to say. The question I should ask myself why I should expect any thing more from Mr. Abbott. What I do not understand why Mr. Hunt should sell out his self respect and own beliefs to stand by Mr. Abbott.

Sorry to pinch pathetic but I cannot think of a better word to explain the esercise.

You are sure right about the pathetic state of the media, and with the Senate due to change in July, The Coalition are getting desperate to do anything to have an election before then….

You can sense it can’t you Kevin? The increasing shrillness of the Opposition in their feeble and almost definitely unconstitutional efforts to trigger another election before the new Senate sites is just comical.

Mr. Abbott has just been given more than five minutes speech on ABC24 News after the Press Club. He was not asked one question. No comment was made on his speech. Who else get this luxury.
