Professional journalism…R.I.P
With the massive job losses in Fairfax and Limited News, along with the ongoing decay in standards it is now apparent that the journalistic profession in Australia is on it’s last legs.
The rationale behind the job cuts is simply bizarre, with management obviously hoping that they can continue to produce a “quality” product with far fewer resources…because that’s a realistic approach isn’t it. Before the job losses Fairfax and NEws Limited were competing in a race to the bottom, with the lowest common denominator the target audience of choice causing a death spiral of celebrity gossip and uninformed opinion supplanting news. In effect Fairfax and New Ltd have become the Today Tonight and ACA of print media…not something to aspire to really.
The final proof of their complete degradation was of course the response to the Craig Thomson saga. Instead of focussing on the facts of the “scandal” they instead persist in following their own narrative, reinforcing it whenever possible with the flimsiest of rationales and ignoring any evidence to the contrary.
It has taken an independent news site and an amateur blogger to shine the brightest light on this, bringing forth all of the evidence of Kathy Jackson’s hypocrisy and dodgy dealings in the HSU. Far from being the whistleblower poster child the MSM would like us to think she is, she is even more dodgy than Thomson is claimed to be with mounds of documentary evidence being provided to back up these claims…unlike the Thomson saga itself.
The work done by Peter Wicks on his own site and on the Independent Australia site on the Jacksonville saga is nothing short of classic journalism. It is everything the mainstream media should be and are obviously to ashamed of themselves to follow up on because it casts them in such a poor light.
I urge anyone who has not already done so to read the Jacksonville articles to get an understanding of the type of person Kathy Jackson really is and why it is looking increasingly likely that Thomson’s claims of being set up are not complete bullshit.
I reckon Wicks deserves a Walkley for his efforts.

It would certainly seem that the skills of investigative journalism are fading fast at Fairfax and News Ltd. Perhaps they never really existed. Accolades should be given to Peter Wicks and Independent Australia for their work on exposing this whole saga for what it is — a politically corrupt attempt to replace the current Federal Government. The Slipper saga is the second attempt.
My disappointment is that now one of the mainstream media, especially the ABC, has shown enought ‘cojones’ to have a hard look at all the material and do balanced report on the whole issue. Four Corners, I’m bloody ashamed of you. Kerry, you disappoint me. What happened to your journalistic integrity — faded away with the super payout?
Wixxy has been doing a magnificent job. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Mrs. wixxy in Sydney in May. Top bloke, full of enthusiasm.
Yes…. the silence of MSM regarding what Peter has been able to uncover is deafening.. and one can only wonder why… just doesn’t fit the “change the government now” narrative .. appalling… and great work by Peter!
The deafening silence from the mainstream media in the light of the Jacksonville revelations by wixxy pretty much say it all, afaic. But I notice they also seem to have lost all interest in Craig Thomson.
And I notice there seems to be an equivalent lack of interest in Peter Slipper and Ashby.
The Liars Party thought they’d pulled a major stroke with both Thomson and Slipper, but didn’t count on the refusal to fall on their swords on the part of both men.
I always thought the Thomson business was utter crap and the longer it went on, with Thomson standing fast, the more I felt I was right. Had he been guilty of any wrong doing, he would have been nailed by the union years ago and the more noise there was about Jackson, the more I thought the whole thing had a Liars Party whiff about it.
Then when the Slipper thing reared its head, the distinct odour of rotten eggs started to emanate from the whole rotten mess.
Trust the Liars to be so arrogant and utterly incompetent as to leave a trail the size of the Pacific Highway behind them. Even Rupert’s minions couldn’t clean that lot up!
Bloody hell! They want to govern the country and they’re too stupid to even accomplish a simple stitch up. God help us if they do get their hands on the levers of power!
O”Barrel’s latest assault on workers in NSW. MSM mute.

Conspirisy theory alert…. When all else fails a nice Rudd resurrection story helps..
On today’s Courier Mail site…”Kevin Rudd pumps iron in parliamentary gym as Labor leadership speculation renewed”….. You just can’t even make this stuff up FFS.
I beg to differ, Kevin. The msm does it all the time. lol
”it is looking increasingly likely that Thomson’s claims of being set up are not complete bullshit.”
Now really, that is hilarious. All Wicks has done is make some half baked accusations about people who are not even in parliament. It’s slightly interesting mud, and it’s only a typical “look over there!!”
I’m surprised at the latent misogyny, attacking a woman based on her personal relationship. He suggests that Lawler influenced the report on Thomson.
What he doesn’t bother to explain is how Lawler could do this.
• The investigatory division has no relationship with the arbitral organisation.
• The report was supervised by Tim Lee, former union official, former ALP ministerial advisor, appointed as a FWA Commissioner by this government.
• It was released under the watch of FWA President Iain Ross, former ACTU official, respected jurist.
Wicks is wilfully ignorant of the FWA structure, and in pointing at Lawler ignores the range of other people with direct responsibility, who happen to have ALP/union affiliations.
…and Thomson has resolved 1 of the 180 findings against him. Here, you’re just regurgitating the garbage.
It’s fairly obvious from your rant that you haven’t even glanced at Wixxy’s stuff, let alone comprehended the informaiton he has and still is uncovering.
To summarised for you, the information is increasingly highlighting the rampant corruption of Kathy Jackson and her determination to sweep any of her own indiscretions under the rug in a crusade against Thomson…just look at her puerile attempts to influcence the judge before her job was made invalid.
BTW Thomson wasn’t in Parliament when his indiscretions were said to have occurred…thought I should point that out.
BTW Thomson wasn’t in Parliament when his indiscretions were said to have occurred…thought I should point that out.
And FWIW Thompson was reelected after the claims against him were in the public domain, during the 2010 election.

Just indicate how Wixxy’s stuff shows-
• Thomson didn’t do what FWA found
• How Lawler could have influenced the findings
• How the report could be influenced by Lawler given the organisation structure of FWA
• How Jackson has planted the evidence on Thomson.
If it doesn’t demonstrate this, it could be characterised as an attack on Jackson as a union official. Heavens, I’ve been accused of that for a few years, but when I do it, it’s apparently part of some plot.
